LAUGHTER...The
Medicine of Choice!
By Joe Perry
A recent study in the journal of
Heart magazine found that laughter truly may be the best
medicine. The study showed that people who watched a funny movie
showed about the same cardiovascular benefits as someone
jogging. Now I'm not about to suggest stop jogging or exercising
and spend more time sitting in front of the TV watching movies,
but the study reveals great information as to the huge benefits
that come from laughter.
In fact there are a number of studies linking negative emotions
such as anger, worry, hostility and depression to poorer health.
Unfortunately there are not as many studies showing the benefits
to those people who have a happier outlook.
The key point is that emotions trigger various hormones and
neurotransmitters (brain messengers) that have an effect on our
health. People who go through the day with negative emotions
such as worry, fear, anxiety and hostility produce more stress
hormones and neurotransmitters that relate to poorer health, as
opposed to people who walk around with a smile on their face.
The happy folks don't have as many stress hormones running
through their body!
The take home message is simple, smile more! Don't worry so much
about the small stuff, enjoy life! Scripture teaches to not
worry about tomorrow…when there is enough to worry about today.
Besides, 90% of the things we worry about never happen!
Until next time…keep smiling! |
